Everything you need to know about MenuToGo — from setting up your digital menu to what your guests see at the table.

For restaurant owners

The complete guide — from creating your account to running daily service.

Getting started

From zero to a live digital menu — most restaurants finish this in under 10 minutes.

Create your account: go to Register and sign up with Google or with your name, email and password. You'll need to accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

Verify your email: we send you a verification link right away, and you must confirm it before your first login. If it didn't arrive, check spam or press “Resend” on the login page.

Create your restaurant: give it a name, choose the menu's default language and select the additional languages you want to offer. Choose the default language carefully — it can't be changed later.

Pick a plan: choose Basic, Standard or Advanced and start your 30-day free trial. No credit card required — if you don't subscribe, the trial simply ends and nothing is charged.

Explore the dashboard: quick-link cards take you straight to Menus, Design Menu, QR Codes, the Translation Center, Contact and My Restaurant.

Tip: The order that works best: build your menu first, then design it, then print your QR codes.

Finding your way around

The dashboard sidebar is organized into five areas. Here's what lives where.

Dashboard — your home screen with a greeting and quick links to the most common tasks.

Menu Content — Menus (categories and dishes), Design Menu (look and layout) and the Translation Center.

Dine-In — Tables, QR Codes, Card Terminals, Orders, Staff and Kitchen: everything for service at the table.

Insights — Analytics and Reviews.

Account — My Restaurant (settings), Plugins (add-ons), Contact Us and Logout.

Tip: Items showing a lock need a higher plan: Tables, Orders, Staff, Kitchen, Analytics and Card Terminals are part of the Advanced plan. Clicking a locked item takes you to the plans page.

Building your menu

Your menu is made of categories (e.g. Starters, Mains, Drinks) that contain your dishes and drinks.

Create a category: on the Menus page choose “Add category”, upload an image, enter the name, pick Food or Drinks and — on the Advanced plan — assign a station (Kitchen or Bar) for order routing.

Add a product: enter name, price and description, and upload up to five photos or a short video. Switches let you hide a product or mark it as sold out at any time.

Declare allergens: pick from the 14 EU-standard allergens, each with its letter code (Gluten A, Crustaceans B, Eggs C, Fish D, Peanuts E, Soy F, Milk G, Nuts H, Celery L, Mustard M, Sesame N, Sulphites O, Lupin P, Molluscs R). Guests see the codes on every dish.

Add options: variants (e.g. sizes), option groups (single or multiple choice with min/max rules and per-option prices), ingredients and paid extras. Labels like “⭐ Bestseller” and “🆕 New” plus a dietary tag (Halal, Vegan or Vegetarian) help dishes stand out.

Import instead of typing: the Import button accepts a photo or PDF of your existing menu (AI-powered, Standard plan and above), an Excel sheet or a MenuToGo backup file (JSON).

Review the import preview: AI import never writes straight to your menu — you always see a preview of the recognized categories and dishes and confirm before anything is created.

Tip: Changes go live instantly — guests always see the current menu without you reprinting anything.

Designing your menu

Design Menu controls exactly how your menu looks on guests' phones, with a live preview while you work.

Start with a preset: browse ready-made looks (luxury, modern, warm, bold) and apply one with a single click — you can undo right away.

Add your brand: upload your logo, adjust its size and connect your social profiles (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter).

Fine-tune the style: seven color slots (background, primary, product cards, order button and more), font family, text size and heading style.

Choose the layout: grid, list, magazine, compact, full-bleed or carousel — plus header style, category shapes, image ratios, animations and cart style. The “Show Order Button” switch hides ordering entirely if you want a view-only menu.

Tip: Some design options are marked with a lock — they unlock on higher plans.

Translating your menu

Serve international guests in their own language — manually or with AI help.

Open the Translation Center: the left panel lists your categories and dishes, the editor shows one column per language.

Add languages: press “Add languages” and pick from the list. Your plan sets the limit: up to 3 languages on Basic, 6 on Standard and 9 on Advanced (including your default language).

Translate with AI: “Bulk translate” fills in all missing translations automatically, with a progress bar. You can edit every AI suggestion afterwards.

Edit by hand: change names, descriptions, variants, ingredients and extras per language. Your drafts are kept locally until you save.

Save: only saved changes go live. If you navigate away with unsaved drafts, we warn you first.

Tip: Guests only see languages you've enabled — the menu's language selector appears automatically once there is more than one.

QR codes & tables

There are two kinds of QR codes — and the difference matters: the general menu code lets guests browse, a table code lets them order.

General menu QR: the QR Codes page generates the code for your permanent menu link. Perfect for the entrance, counter, flyers or social media — guests can browse but not order.

Style it: adjust dot and corner patterns, colors and frames (with your name, a subtitle or logo), then download as PNG or SVG — or simply copy the link.

Social QRs: create extra codes for your Google review link, Instagram, Facebook, any custom URL — or a WiFi code so guests connect without typing a password.

Set up tables (Advanced plan): on the Tables page create sections (e.g. “Main Floor”, “Terrace”) and add tables with number, seats and an optional VIP flag. Every table gets its own QR code linking your menu to that table — that's what enables ordering.

Print at scale: download all table codes at once as a ZIP, or as a ready-to-print PDF label sheet.

Tip: If guests can see the menu but not order, they almost certainly scanned the general code instead of a table code.

Orders, kitchen & staff

When a guest orders from a table QR, the order lands in your dashboard in real time.

Watch orders arrive: the Orders page shows them as a searchable table, a kanban board or grouped by table session — with an optional new-order sound.

Move orders through the flow: Received → Accepted → Preparing → Ready → Served. You can also cancel or reject early-stage orders. Guests see every status change live.

Use the Kitchen page during service: a full-screen board made for the kitchen — tap to advance orders, or drag cards between columns.

Route by station: dishes tagged Kitchen or Bar appear on the right station's board.

Let staff work without your login: staff members sign in with a PIN on your restaurant's staff link. Kitchen and bar get a full-screen display, waiters a task list, managers their own dashboard.

React to “Call Waiter”: when a guest asks for assistance, the bill or to order, the request appears for your staff with the reason — and the guest sees when it's acknowledged.

Tip: Orders, Staff, Kitchen and Tables are Advanced-plan features — on Basic and Standard your menu is view-only.

Getting paid

Guests can pay online, at the counter, or by card right at the table. Because paying builds on table ordering, payment features are part of the Advanced plan.

Connect Stripe: open Card Terminals — despite the name, online payments are set up here too — and press “Set up Stripe”. Stripe's guided onboarding verifies your business; afterwards guests can pay online by card.

Choose payment timing: decide whether guests pay when ordering or afterwards, and whether payment is required before an order is placed.

Know the guest options: “Pay now” (online card payment), “Pay at counter” (no online charge) and — with a connected card reader — “Pay by card at the table”.

Add card readers (optional): MenuToGo currently supports Stripe Terminal and SumUp (Solo and Solo Lite readers), with more providers on the way. Connect the provider, verify the connection and pair your readers.

Charge and refund from the order: open any order to charge the remaining balance, a custom amount or selected items on a reader — and issue full or partial refunds.

Tip: The “Pay by card at the table” button only appears for guests once a terminal connection is verified.

Analytics & reviews

See what's working — and let happy guests say it publicly. Analytics is part of the Advanced plan; Reviews is included in every subscription.

Overview analytics: orders, revenue, average order value and cancellations, a daily trend, your top products, per-table performance and a payment breakdown — all exportable as CSV.

Engagement analytics: the funnel from menu views to product views, carts and orders, overall conversion, and QR scans per table.

Connect Google Reviews: link your Google Business profile, sync reviews into the dashboard and reply from one place.

Collect more reviews: generate a QR code for your Google review link straight from the QR Codes page.

Account, plans & extras

Everything about your restaurant profile, subscription and optional add-ons.

My Restaurant: currency and core settings, your public Discovery profile (so guests find you in our public restaurant directory, the Discover page), the AI Food Assistant configuration — including a “Chef's Pick” product it recommends — and delivery integrations for Foodora and Talabat.

Plugins: bookable add-on packs on top of your plan — +3 menus, +10 tables, +5 staff members or Advanced Analytics, billed monthly.

Profile & billing: change your password, manage invoices and payment method through the Stripe billing portal, and control which notifications you get by email or in-app.

Subscription: see your current plan, switch plans or manage the subscription at any time.

Leaving: you can delete your account under Profile — this is permanent and requires typed confirmation.

For guests

No app, no account — everything happens in your phone's browser.

Using the menu at the table

No app, no account, nothing to install — the menu runs in your phone's browser.

Scan the QR code on your table with your phone's camera and tap the link that pops up.

Browse the menu by category or use search. If the restaurant offers several languages, switch with the language selector at the top.

Tap any dish for photos, a description, allergen codes and options — choose a size, options and extras, then add it to your cart.

Not sure what to get? If a chat button is offered, ask the menu assistant — tell it your mood, diet or allergies and it suggests matching dishes.

Open the cart, check your picks, optionally add your name or a note, and place the order — it goes straight to the kitchen.

Track your order live: the status moves from received through preparing to ready and served — and you can add more items for the same table at any time.

Pay from the order screen when you're ready: online by card, at the counter, or ask for the card reader to be brought to your table.

Tip: Need a person? Tap “Call Waiter”, choose why (assistance, the bill, ready to order) and a member of staff is notified immediately.

Common questions

My guests can see the menu but can't order — why?

Ordering is enabled by the table QR codes from the Tables page — the general menu code is browse-only. Also check that “Show Order Button” is on in Design Menu → Layout, and note that ordering features (Tables, Orders, Kitchen) are part of the Advanced plan.

How do I offer my menu in more languages?

Open the Translation Center, add languages (up to 3 on Basic, 6 on Standard, 9 on Advanced) and use “Bulk translate” to fill everything in with AI — then polish any wording by hand. Guests get a language selector automatically.

How do guests pay online?

Connect Stripe under Card Terminals → “Set up Stripe”. Once onboarding is complete, guests see “Pay now” on their order. Card readers at the table are optional on top. Note that payments build on table ordering, which is part of the Advanced plan.

Do I need to reprint my QR codes when I change the menu?

No — never. The QR code points to a permanent link; every menu change is live the moment you save it.

What happens when my free trial ends?

After 30 days the trial simply ends — no charge, because no credit card was required. Your menu and settings are kept, and you can subscribe to any plan whenever you're ready.

I never received the verification email.

Check your spam folder first, then use “Resend” on the login page. Still nothing? Contact us and we'll verify your account manually.

What does MenuToGo charge on guest payments, and when do I get my money?

Guest payments are processed through your own Stripe account, so payouts arrive on your Stripe payout schedule. MenuToGo takes a 5% service fee on online order payments — tips are excluded and go 100% to you — and Stripe's own processing fees apply per their pricing. Card-reader payments taken through the built-in Stripe Terminal connection carry a reduced 2% MenuToGo fee (SumUp readers are billed by SumUp only). “Pay at counter” involves no online fees at all.

Which card readers work with MenuToGo?

Readers connect through your payment provider. Today that's Stripe Terminal (any reader your Stripe account offers) and SumUp with the Solo or Solo Lite reader — more providers are on the way. You buy the reader from the provider, then pair it in Card Terminals using the code shown on the device.

What happens if I cancel or downgrade my plan?

Cancelling keeps everything running until the end of the period you've paid for, and you can resume any time before then. Afterwards your account enters a 90-day grace period with Basic-level features — nothing is deleted, and your guests' menu stays online the entire time. Downgrading never deletes data either: everything you created stays, you just can't add new items beyond the smaller plan's limits. Only after the grace period does dashboard access lock — contact us and we'll reactivate you.
