All 14 allergens with codes A–R, right on the dish

For every dish, you record which of the 14 allergens it contains. Your guests see them right on the dish – with the letter code from A to R – and can hide dishes with specific allergens themselves.

Right on the dish

Every allergen you record appears on the dish as a small symbol with its letter code – A for cereals containing gluten, for example. The dish's detail page lists all allergens by name and code.

Guests filter for themselves

In the search, guests choose what they can't have under “Avoid Allergens”. Only dishes without those allergens are then shown.

AI suggests, you decide

During AI import, MenuToGo suggests likely allergens based on each dish's name and description. You check the suggestions and complete them.

The 14 allergens and their codes

What applies in Austria?

Guests must be informed about allergens in non-prepacked food too, such as dishes served in a restaurant. In Austria, this is set out in the Allergen Information Regulation (Allergeninformationsverordnung, BGBl. II Nr. 175/2014), which refers to the 14 allergen groups in Annex II of the EU Food Information Regulation (Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011).

  • The information can be given in writing or orally. According to the Ministry of Health, there are no requirements for the form of written information – for example on the menu.
  • If you inform orally, it must be done by trained staff, with a clearly visible notice that the information is available on request.
  • The information must be based on written documentation.

A short summary, not legal advice. The legal text is binding.

What remains your responsibility

MenuToGo shows the allergens you record for each dish. Which allergens a dish contains, and keeping your ingredient documentation correct, remains your responsibility – just as with a printed menu.
